Trying to get some Detroit Twitter Connections...

I travel to Detroit a lot- (based in Toledo).
My day job is social networking and social media...
I am trying to hook up with more twitter users from around the Midwest and am also planning on putting together some big meeting of the mind events once I can get everyone on the same page.
Is there a way to pull together Twitter users from different cities for one big tweetup?
Suggestions are more than welcomed!

I do a lot in social media as well and one thing that is sure to get some folks out for Tweet-up is a Niche specific reason. Have a couple of online think tanks and then invite them face to face.
